The electric EQS even knows who you are and where you are sitting in the car.

Just like the 2021 S-Class sedan, the new Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan has flush door handles. When you touch them, the door handles pop out and light up, and then you can pull the handle to open the door. But what if you don’t want to expend a lot of physical effort to touch your car and open the door manually? Fortunately, EQS is the first Mercedes equipped with the new Keyless Go Convenience Package Plus. It adds electric doors that will open automatically when you walk towards the car.

Now, electric doors are no stranger to the automotive world. The front door of the Tesla Model X will open as you walk towards the car; Rolls-Royce cars like New Gust have used electric door closures for many years. Some minivans have electric sliding doors that can be opened with a flick of your feet. On the contrary, it is the implementation of electric doors in EQS that makes them unique.

The doors can be opened and closed via the central touch screen.

This car uses sensors and cameras to detect surrounding objects, so when they open on their own, it will not hit the door on a pole or other car or the like. Once you sit in the driver’s seat, the driver’s door is closed by pressing the brake pedal. You can also open a page on the central screen that shows a top-down view of the car, where you can open or close all four doors individually-if you want, you can stop the process midway. Of course, the rear door is also powered, and the door can also be opened and closed with a remote control key.

But what if you sit in the back seat? Of course, you will never want to actually stretch the door handle to close it-it's not luxurious-and the EQS does not have a physical door-closing button like a Rolls-Royce on the internal pillars. This is the source of your voice. Just say, "Hey, Mercedes" to activate the MBUX voice assistant, and then "close my door". Soon, EQS will close your door. Not only can the car recognize different sounds and associate them with personal data, it can also know which seat you are sitting in based on where your voice comes from, so it will close your specific door. This also applies to opening them.

Just like other seemingly silly little features such as heated armrests and augmented reality navigation, when I first heard about EQS doors, I thought they were cool but a bit pointless. But then I really experienced them in real life, and now I hope that every car has a door that can be closed with my voice. Comfortable, convenient, peaceful, and never need to do anything by yourself. That is a real luxury.
