Whether you’re looking for an inexpensive vacation home or hoping to downsize as a way to simplify your life year-round, you have to admit that tiny homes are tempting.

Minuscule maintenance, pint-sized payments, excellent efficiency—there’s a lot to love.

It’s truly amazing what you can do these days with just a few hundred square feet of living space. That’s the official definition of a tiny house: one that measures between 100 and 400 square feet.

We searched all over the country and came up with five fun and diverse examples of places where you can live little but still get a lot. Take a look.

Price: $145,000 Petite perfection: One of the most elegant tiny houses we’ve ever seen, this 399-square-foot beauty has luxury features like a full kitchen with high-end appliances, a fireplace, a bar, French doors, and a rain shower.

It’s located in Monarch Springs Ranch, a 55-plus community currently under development. It’s a tiny-home mecca with a 5-acre fishing pond, a community garden, a dog park, and access to a 20-acre wildlife preserve.

This tiny home, or one like it, is available for purchase with a lease to the 2,178-square-foot lot it sits on.

Just a little over an hour from Dallas, and even closer to Plano, it’s the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, without having to forgo fancy living.

Price: $225,000 Lofty aspirations: If you’ve ever dreamed of having a home down by the river, this is the place for you! Vermont’s picturesque Black River borders this 3,049-square-foot lot. The property includes a decent-sized storage shed where you can stow your recreation equipment and other stuff that won’t fit inside the 396-square-foot house.

The main residence is a country cabin with a fireplace, wood paneling, and a second-story sleeping loft. It even has a bathroom with a tub, and a backdoor with a mudroom-type entry.

Unique outdoorsy luxury like this is usually located far from most conveniences. But this one is just a short walk to restaurants, shops, golf, and skiing. And the land is permitted for a larger home, in case the whole family wants to join you.

Price: $79,900 Big lot, little house: For the ones who want to get away from it all and live completely off the grid, this rustic home sits on a 2.53-acre lot out in the desert wilderness, with views of the Black Mountains.

The 290-square-foot, loft-style home is powered by solar panels and a wind turbine. There’s a 650-gallon water storage tank and a 7-gallon instant water heater. Long showers are probably a luxury you’ll want to skip here.

The remote locale is some 30 miles from the nearest towns of Laughlin and Bullhead City. So it’s an ideal getaway for someone who truly wants wide-open space. Or it could be rented out on Airbnb for those interested in a shorter stint in the Southwest.

Price: $225,000 Itty-bitty bachelor pad: Most tiny homes are relatively non-gender-specific, but this is the first one we’ve seen with a urinal, and it’s giving us a man-cave vibe. The toilet has a bidet and heated seat, for those who prefer to stay seated.

But it’s not all about the bathroom. Measuring 400 square feet and sitting on a 2.23-acre lot, this home has a sturdy timber frame construction, vaulted ceilings, and a fenced yard for pets.

The tree-filled lot near the Tennessee border has plenty of space for an additional three-bedroom home, which is already permitted. And it’s just a 5-mile drive to quaint little Blairsville, with all of its small-town charm.

Price: $195,000 Baby bungalow: This 320-square-foot bungalow is unlike your typical tiny home, possibly because it was originally built in 1940, before tiny-home features became somewhat standardized.

The charmer has been completely remodeled with an open plan, updated kitchen space, washer-dryer hookups, and French doors leading to a bedroom with a separate bath.

Then there’s the generous 4,478-square-foot lot, which includes a detached garage, pergola, fountain, terraced gardens, and several conversation areas. Many of the furnishings are included in the sale.
