A man left his girlfriend alone in their new house to go to work. When a stranger in a black hoodie approached her from behind, she thought the neighborhood was safe and began to clean up.

Redditor hazelnutlatte9543 and her partner are happy to move into their new house. However, there are several obstacles in their path. For example, the previous owners of the building did not hand over the keys to them on time. 

The real estate agent told the couple that they could not use the garage door opener on the day of closing. When the original poster (OP) asked about the keys, the real estate agent told her that the seller worked an hour away and would not hand over the keys until late at night.

The real estate agent arranged a new lock for the front door. She gave the couple money to buy a garage door opener. The OP is at a loss, but mistakenly believes that everything is fine. She explained:

"So, we closed the house and everything else went smoothly. Until I went to set up and turned on the power, the power company said that they would not be able to turn on our power until the next day, even if I called in the morning."

There was no electricity all night, and she was very upset. She looked around and decided to clean the place. The previous owner made a mess of the house. OP started cleaning alone. 

She used the front door to move things in and out of the house. In the end, she forgot to lock the door and kept cleaning while watching the real crime/horror podcast. 

She was busy cleaning the refrigerator when she suddenly felt someone looking at her from behind. OP knows that this is not her partner because he is not teaching.

She began to feel nervous. She could see the shadow moving closer. The OP was terrified. She stood still, turning around to see who was behind her. She explained:

"I turned around and saw a man in a black hoodie and black shorts telling me that he was here to put down the garage door opener. He left the corkscrew on the island and said nothing."

She thought she scared the man, just as he scared her. The stranger said nothing, and walked out the door quickly.

OP couldn't believe what had just happened, and was so scared that he quickly grabbed her phone. She contacted her partner and real estate agent. If a stranger knocks on the door before entering her house, she will begin to doubt. However, she confirmed that he had never knocked on the door. 

After reading her story, several users suggested to the OP why it is necessary to carefully check whether the front door is locked. User Thizlam commented on a similar incident in which a person fleeing the police tried to break into her house and hide. She explained:

"I always lock the door and have a metal door stopper. It's also broad daylight. You never know when such a thing will happen. It's better to be over-prepared than unprepared."

Redditor arodrig99 claims that no matter how safe you feel, it is important to lock the front door. The person said that locking the front door can add extra security, especially in the face of threats.   

OP said there is still a lot of cleaning work to be done before they move in. She decided not to watch crime/horror podcasts when she was at home alone. Most importantly, she realized the importance of locking the front door.
