The driver of a bright orange motorcycle led police on a high-speed chase at about 4 p.m. Sept. 29.

Police saw the orange motorcycle -- believed to be a Suzuki GSX-R750 -- and a bright green Yamaha motorcycle heading north on North Rocky River Drive. Both motorcycles had license plates, but the plate on the orange motorcycle was folded backward, making it impossible to read.

When the motorcycles reached Ohio 237 northbound, police activated their overhead lights and sirens. Both motorcycles pulled over initially, but the orange motorcycle then took off. The rider ran red lights on Ohio 237 at Eastland and Snow roads while reaching 90 mph.

Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons. They returned to speak to the rider of the green motorcycle, but that person had left the scene.

Breaking & entering: Eastland Road

Police stopped a possible burglary in progress at about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, 164 Eastland.

Officers, accompanied by a police K-9, were checking a building to make sure all the doors were locked when they heard a noise in the front of the building. Then a garage door in the building started to rise and the K-9 began barking.

Police sent the K-9 to the front of the building. As the K-9 approached the garage door, a man’s voice shouted, “Oh, (shoot).” The K-9 was unable to maneuver under the garage door toward the suspect because the door hadn’t risen high enough.

Police found an overturned table inside the building, near the garage door. The garage door had hit the table as it was rising.

Police and the K-9 exited the building through a man door, but saw no one outside. Nothing was missing from the building.

A Baldwin Wallace University security guard called police at about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 5 and said that a 40-year-old Berea man who had been banned from the campus had threatened him.

The guard said it happened near the train tracks on Depot near Front Street. The man told the guard that he would visit the guard’s home and “dance” with him -- which the guard interpreted as fight with him -- and that the man had ninja and FBI training.

The guard stepped into his vehicle and drove away. The man walked away. Police called the man and left a voicemail message.

Arrest warrants served: West Bagley Road

A Parma man, 52, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Oct. 1 after police noticed him riding a bicycle near Tower in the Park apartments on Barrett Road.

Police were patrolling the area due to a recent rash of catalytic converter thefts. The man rode his bike into West Valley Plaza. Police caught up with him in front of Karen’s Hallmark Shop.

The man identified himself and said he was simply out for a bike ride and was checking dumpsters for valuable garbage.

Police found that four warrants, including one for a felony, had been issued for the man’s arrest. The cities issuing the warrants included Brook Park, Strongsville and Parma.

Theft of motor vehicle: East Bridge Street

A 2017 Volkswagen Passat was stolen between 1:30 and 6 a.m. Sept. 30 from an East Bridge driveway. The victim had left the car unlocked and the keys inside.

Theft of motor vehicle: Stanford Drive

A 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen early Sept. 30 from a Stanford driveway.

It’s unknown whether the car had been locked. Security video showed the car being backed out of the driveway at about 3:30 a.m.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: West Bagley Road

A Berea man, 28, was arrested at about 1 a.m. Oct. 1 after police caught him driving drunk on West Bagley.

Police saw the man’s Dodge Ram speeding while turning from Poertner Drive onto West Bagley. The truck then weaved through traffic, changing lanes without signaling. The man drove about 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Police pulled over the truck on West Bagley near Valley Parkway. As police walked toward the truck, the man put eyedrops in both eyes and shoved a stick of gum in his mouth.

The truck smelled like alcohol. The man said he had consumed only “a couple of beers.” He failed field sobriety tests.

At the police station, the man experienced mood swings. He yelled profanities and insults at police.
