August 8, 2022 - Northwest League (NWL) - Vancouver Canadians News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - PK Morris' two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh erased a one-run deficit to spark a 6-3 Canadians win over the Tri-City Dust Devils (Angels) in front of a sellout crowd at The Nat on an A&W Family Fun Sunday. The win was Vancouver's fifth in a row.

After #7 Blue Jays prospect Gabby Martinez slugged his first High-A homer to spoil a no-hit bid for Tri-City in the fifth, the C's came to bat in the seventh trailing 2-1. Newcomer Rainer Nunez singled for his first Canadians hit and Riley Tirotta worked a big two-out walk to put two men on base for Morris. The Tampa, FL native tattooed a 2-2 pitch from Zac Kristofak (L, 1-3) over the right field wall for his seventh home run of the season to give Vancouver a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Damiano Palmegiani - who hit a grand slam earlier in the series - provided some welcome insurance in the eighth. The Surrey, BC native slugged a two-out, two-run big fly that was set up by a soft single from #5 Blue Jays prospect Leo Jimenez in the previous at-bat to make it 6-3 Vancouver and Connor Cooke (S, 2) slammed the door with a perfect ninth to lock down the victory.

Jimmy Robbins made the start and went four and a third with two runs on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Troy Watson and Justin Kelly (W, 7-2) combined on three innings of middle relief to keep the Dust Devils at bay.

All six of Vancouver's runs scored via long ball. Five of nine starters had a hit.

After an off-day Monday, the Canadians begin their longest road trip of the year - a two-week stint with stops in Oregon and Washington - Tuesday night at PK Park against Eugene (Giants). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and coverage can be found on CanadiansBaseball.com and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
