Newark — With the support of the Lijin County Foundation, the Lijin County Health Department, in collaboration with the Mount Carmel Health System, will host a mobile mammogram unit in downtown Newark on Thursday.

Eligible women in Lijin County should call 614-234-7400 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to make a mammogram appointment at a mobile unit located in the Canal Market District.

The American College of Radiology recommends that women between the ages of 35 and 39 receive mammograms under written orders from their doctors. Women over the age of 40 should receive a mammogram once a year. No written order from a doctor is required.

Most Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, and private insurance plans cover the cost of mammograms. LCHD's screening and survivor support program, with the support of the Licking Count Foundation, provides financial assistance to uninsured or underinsured women.

LCHD reminds women in Licking County that one in eight people may develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection and treatment of breast cancer has a high cure rate.

Newark-Due to system maintenance and updates in Ohio, staff at the Likin County Work and Family Service Center will not be able to access the public assistance system on Friday.

During the power outage, LCJFS staff will not be able to process case transactions or computer-based public assistance applications. Those who wish to apply for assistance during a power outage can use paper applications.

On Friday, staff will not have access to existing case information, nor will they be able to answer case-specific questions about eligibility or benefits.

It is expected to start normal operations on December 6. For more information, please email lickingcountyjfs@jfs.ohio.gov or call the call center at 740-670-8988.

Newark-New York City announced that starting at 5 pm on Wednesday, West Street will reopen traffic at the Fourth Street intersection.

As the city’s four-year, $28 million Fourth Street infrastructure project continues, Fourth Street remains closed between West Avenue and West Chapel Street, and between West Avenue and Walnut Street in downtown Newark .

This work is the city's continued compliance with the EPA's regulations to separate sewers and rainwater to prevent sewage from being discharged into the river during heavy rains.
