How to adjust the screen door-Mother Earth News | The original guide to a wise life

The previous automatic screen door closer was a large spring, which made it possible to close the door forcefully, allowing children to cry when they pinched their fingers or pulled their hair. Then technology emerged, and the shock absorber installed on the door could close the door gently, safely and quietly.

A smashed grand slam! Cut into your pleasant dreams. Few other environmental noises are so uniquely coordinated with the human nervous system. Even a cat that sleeps peacefully on your lap will wake up with convulsions and jump off for cover. Whether you sleep on a sofa or a hammock, immerse yourself in an incomprehensible peace where you can't hear, and you will quickly realize that adjusting the door is a chore that must be done.

So you stand up, stretch out, take out a flat-blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver, a can of light motor oil, and prepare to meet the aggressive door.

Fortunately, this is not rocket science. The device is basically a spring-type shock absorber. Open the door and check the mechanism. At the end of the piston mounted on the door, there is an embedded screw. Rotate 180 degrees clockwise to close the door.

too slow? The door can't close at all? Rotate the screw 90 degrees counterclockwise and try. After each adjustment, I opened the door completely and let it close until I was satisfied with the operation of the door. By making subtle adjustments, you can adjust the screen door closer to your liking.

When you patch a large spring piston around hinges and other dangerous moving parts, avoiding painful blood bubbles should be in your mind. If the small catch that slides along the piston is accidentally released, the spring can draw your net directly into the tube, and then pinch it. It will hurt. This is the voice of experience-which is why I sometimes even use my trusted door wedge in this job instead of believing in the small sliding lock to open the tab.

As long as I am there, I will also check the small felt pad (on the wooden door) or rubber seal (combined storm/screen) between the door and the door frame. Finally, I oiled the hinges and latches.

Everyone will notice the improvement and can resume rest.
